Go With The Flow

May 6, 2015

Okay, I feel like I have to explain why my photo-a-day didn’t pan out quite like I had planned. I had high hopes of completing this project, and then I had hoped to at least go six months, then I was struggling to go three. I love taking photos, I love editing photos, and I love blogging… but life has been so incredibly busy! I ended it prematurely, and I guess I’m mostly apologizing to myself because I’m pretty sure no one reads this blog!

I’ve decided to just… go with the flow.

Life is far too short to have an anxiety attack at the end of the evening because you forgot to take a photo for your blog.

It happened.

February 17, 2015

I fully missed a photo day. It felt much less like a fail due to my previous almost-miss. I was still angry at myself, but I just decided to take a double photo for one day. I did post an older photo to Instagram that day which I think tricked my mind into assuming I’d taken a photo! I’ll post that as a filler too, because why not?

TITLE: Elvis

Okay, not a quality photo but he’s very elusive these days! I wanted to feature him today because I essentially brought him back from near-death. I thought he may be a goner, but after a long weekend away from home I returned to his eye [which was bulging and unsightly] basically looking brand new and perfect! So happy.

Get A Room

We were away for three days and our cat was craving some pretty intense affection last night. She only had eyes for her dad at this point, it must be the rough hands or the fact that he totally gives into her every single time, even though he’s incredibly allergic. Whaaaaat a suck.

DATE: February 15th, 2015
TITLE: Stock Ticker

Has anyone ever played this game before? It’s still relatively popular I think, but we’ve got a copy of the game from the 1930s. Every Family Day weekend, we hibernate away in a cottage up North and play Stock Ticker all weekend. It’s an emotional journey, a cruel cruel game of buying, selling and losing everything you’ve worked for. I did NOT win. Bonds and Industrial broke my heart.

DATE: February 14th, 2015
TITLE: Valentine’s Day

It happened to fall on our Stock Ticker weekend, so we didn’t do much. We took a little walk in the beautiful brisk weather and took a few photos. I love him.

I took two photos this day, having realized I forgot to take one on the 12th. Here’s Lucy, soaking up the kidless, dog-friendly-couch kind of weekend.

DATE: February 13th, 2015
TITLE: Cards Against Humanity

We played a wee bit of this, obviously.
Keenan won.

DATE: February 12th, 2015

I didn’t take a new photo on this day, but I did post an older photo to Instagram and cropped it a bit, so I did technically reinvent a photo? It’s a stretch, and thankfully I took two on the 14th. I follow a blogger who has a very talented husband and he’s currently offering to draw folks on Instagram, so I submitted a photo for a chance at purchasing an original of my mug.

TITLE: Desk Photos

I have a tiny collection of photos on my desk that make me smile. My sister sends me a calendar of my nephew every year and it’s the best.

DATE: February 10th, 2015

I made an incredibly delicious green chickpea and coconut chicken curry on rice with naan on Thursday. It was pretty much the best thing ever.

Inanimate Objects

February 9, 2015

I’ve noticed a lot of ‘things’ in this batch of photos. I suppose I can chalk it up to having a lot of ‘things’ and my camera with me most of the time. I can’t say I’m the biggest fan of my work this week, it lacks creativity and the quality of the photos aren’t my cup of tea. But, I took them on these specific days and this is what I’m stuck with. I’ll just use it to motivate myself for the next batch!

I’m changing the order in which I post photos, with most recent at the top. It helps me feel a bit more organized and the order is a bit more seamless.

Here we go.

DATE: February 9th, 2015
TITLE: HEY, Effie, you’re not in a photo this week. Let’s change that.

Seriously, I can’t seem to go one week with at least one photo of this cat. As you can see, she REALLY loves it. Ew, look at my dirty rug. #shame #catlady

DATE: February 8th, 2015
TITLE: Cosmetic Shelf Elephant

I was browsing Winners and I found this weird little elephant candle holder in the cosmetic section for $3. I really liked him and I made Gerry buy him for me. I have WAY TOO MANY THINGS. What is wrong with me?

DATE: February 7th, 2015
TITLE: Harlequin Rasboras

I feel like an awful photographer on this specific photo. I SHOULD be able to capture a sharp, in focus, beautiful photograph of these quick little fish but I can’t. I blame my collection of lenses, the lack of light in my basement living room, and these fish just kind of being terrified of my camera.

DATE: February 6th, 2015
TITLE: Artistic Dining

We spent Friday with really good friends, drinking and playing Ticket to Ride. Their son was somewhat left unoccupied while he ate his dinner and I took a seat to watch him. He was creating a masterpiece with spaghetti and yogurt. So pretty. He threw lima beans at me. I assumed it was all part of his act.

DATE: February 5th, 2015
TITLE: Freaky Cat Pillow

To fill an order from Urban Outfitters, I ordered this creepy cat pillow. It has become the bain of my cat’s existence and she will puff up her tail at the sight of him. I tend to keep him tucked away to limit her stress levels, but lately it has been floating around the living room. How creepy is that thing?

DATE: February 4th, 2015
TITLE: Pickle

Our good friends, Matt and Jen, have an awesome dog with a big personality. He’s not afraid to tell you he’s ready for you to leave and that he wants to go to bed. We were dining on homemade phó and spring rolls this evening and he was into it, especially this bowl of pâté.

DATE: February 3rd, 2015

On our most recent trip to NYC, my boyfriend bought me this bear and included him as a Christmas gift under our tree. He’s the most beautiful bear that I hope to give to our children one day. I thought he deserved a photograph on my blog.

A New Month

February 2, 2015

We’re back to our regularly scheduled photo posting on Monday! I’m watching Pretty Woman, applying to all the jobs, and writing to you.. my lovely invisible audience. There’s a lot of iPhone photos in this batch as I chose convenience a lot over the weekend, as it was very busy.

DATE: January 29th, 2015
TITLE: Snow Foam

My boyfriend demanded I come outside and witness the foamy consistency of the snowballs he was making. How cute is he?

DATE: January 30th, 2015

She’s cute and intrigued.

DATE: January 31st, 2015
TITLE: Happy Birthday Allie!

We had a birthday party for Gerry’s sister at 3030 in Toronto over the weekend. She was incredibly surprised for all of her surprises and it was super fun! Look at that face!

DATE: February 1st, 2015
TITLE: Superbowl Snack Judge

Charlie is the sweetest little buddy and he was very interested in all of our delicious Superbowl Apps! Too bad he couldn’t eat any of them :(

DATE: February 2nd, 2015
TITLE: Shovel

I took the opportunity to get some exercise without the gym due to the fact that I was far too lazy to trek anywhere in the poorly plowed sidewalks. I shoveled the backyard, the front yard and all the places in between! I decided to bring Carter outside to keep me company. What a champ.

I Need An Adult

January 28, 2015

Guys. I went home to visit my parents on Sunday and I was so caught up with visiting my family that I FORGOT TO TAKE A PHOTO ON MONDAY. I feel like a failure, but I’ll just have to make it up somehow. I need a penalty for missing a day, as I assume it will not be the last day I forget. Do I take an extra photo the following day? Post a video of something? Smack myself in the face with my camera? What do I do? I will have to really think about it and make it up to well, myself… since I highly doubt anyone else except my mother reads this blog. Hi mom. Stay tuned.

There are A LOT of cats in this batch, but I will not apologize. Take it.

Without further ado, here are my photos, albeit a bit late and missing one day [god damn it!]

EDIT: THE PHOTO DOES EXIST. I took it on my mom’s camera and she will be sending it my way soon! I didn’t fail!

DATE: January 20th, 2015
TITLE: Skating at Beresford

I bought skates the winter I began dating my boyfriend [two and a half years ago] and FINALLY he took me out skating with him this season. A lifelong hockey player, he’s an old pro, you might say. Anyway, here he is laughing at me while I try to keep my balance and take a photo at the same time.

DATE: January 21st, 2015

My betta is hilarious, wonderful, a bit of a lemon and incredibly camera shy, I’m lucky if I get a photo of him at all.

DATE: January 22nd, 2015
TITLE: Computer Warmth

My cat will hang off the back of my iMac for twenty minutes at a time to soak up the warmth it radiates. She’s pretty smart.

DATE: January 23rd, 2015

Drinking beer, eating pizza and competively throwing axes might sound dangerous but it really is the most fun thing ever. Here is Gerry being a badass are at BATL for a friend’s birthday this past Saturday.

DATE: January 24th, 2015
Title: Baby Arya

I made a quick stop in Whitby to photograph a good friend’s beautiful new baby girl. She is the sweetest thing ever! Way to make cute babies, Shauna.

DATE: January 25th, 2015

It turns out I took my January 25th photo on my mother’s camera, which is identical to my own, and she sent it to me the other day. It’s not exactly a quality photo because the subject matter was quick to flee, but I managed to snag a photo of them!

DATE: January 26th, 2015

My mom’s cat has the most striking yellow eyes and I love his face.

DATE: January 27th, 2015
TITLE: Djangooooooooo!

Rottweiler. He reminds me so much of Diesel.

DATE: January 28th, 2015
TITLE: Buddy in the Bathroom

This cat has been in my family a very, very long time and he’s the chubbiest, cutest, weirdest toilet drinking cat ever.

Busy things

January 19, 2015

It is so easy to get wrapped up in a TV show when you start from the very beginning. I’ve seen a few episodes of Friends, but never have I watched it all the way through like I am currently. It’s awesome. Aside from very exciting Friends marathon, I had a pretty busy week and I snagged some more photos! I’d write more about my week, but I am really into this episode of Friends. Joey is dating Pheobe’s sister Ursula and she just stood him up. Drama.

DATE: January 13th, 2015
TITLE: Stag and Doe Cougar

My boyfriend and I, along with almost every other guest at my best friends party, bid on this painting as part of a blind auction. It’s so completely random and awesome that everyone wanted to win it. Well, GUESS WHO WON IT. We hung it up where it could be the most enjoyed. Obviously.

DATE: January 14th, 2015
TITLE: Spicy Noodles

I met up with an old co-worker to vent our unemployment frustrations and dined on pleasantly spicy but overwhelmingly giant bowls of ramen and sushi. It was lovely. I love Victoria.

DATE: January 15th, 2015
TITLE: Happiness is a Chuck-It

This is my boyfriend’s mother’s dog, Carter. He’s one of the smartest dogs in the world, but also a giant pain in the behind as he hovers in puppyhood still. How handsome is he though?!

DATE: January 16th, 2015
TITLE: Fred or Raphael?

Our friend’s turtle, Fred. Sarah and Michael had us over for a lovely dinner party on Friday and I spent a lot of time admiring this friendly little guy over wine and food.

DATE: January 17th, 2015

For the last couple years my boyfriend, his sister, her boyfriend and myself get together and watch Monster Jam at the Rogers Centre. It really is one of the most entertaining things ever. When else do you get to cheer for destruction? I love it.

DATE: January 18th, 2015
TITLE: Cat Naps

The title really says it all. Our basement apartment is icy cold and rarely receives heat, so during the colder months my cat takes to sleeping in the warm of my bed blankets, much to my allergies dismay.

DATE: January 19th, 2015

I don’t have much to say about this photo but it represents how I feel about my working space at home currently. It’s cluttered, full of junk and I really need to start purging unnecessary things from my life. Oy.

January 12, 2015

Okay, okay. For the record, I am still doing this project. I realized updating my blog once a day was a bit ridiculous due to a busy schedule and traveling and well, you know, general laziness. Instead of updating every single day, I will combine my photos into a weekly post. I’ll still take them once a day, but will likely edit and post each weekend. It just works better for me and takes the tedious task of plugging things in, opening programs, uploading things, typing things all for a single daily photo out of the agenda. Yay for compromising with myself!

Here are my photos, taken daily, all from my last update… minus the silly times, because ain’t nobody got time for that.

DATE: January 7th, 2015
TITLE: Rocky Balboa

This is my other algae eater, a happy little otocinclus catfish named Rocky Balboa.

DATE: January 8th, 2015
TITLE: Treacherous Pathways

A messy alleyway makes for annoying walks to the backyard but interesting contrasts.

DATE: January 9th, 2015
TITLE: That face, tho

This is our friend’s incredibly adorable dog, Lucy, who always looks incredibly sad but in reality is actually really happy, promise.

DATE: January 10th, 2015
TITLE: Feed me

I got up early Saturday after my boyfriend got up for class and caught this position on the way back to bed. She was waiting for her breakfast but unsure if it had been served yet. Just checking, right? This would be our first iPhone photo!

DATE: January 11th, 2015
TITLE: Ticket To Ride

I’ll just leave this photo right here. It really is the greatest board game of all time. Try it!

DATE: January 12th, 2015
TITLE: Hold On To Your Butts

It makes me laugh every single time I see it. I bought it for $4. No regrets. You can buy other hilarious items at this Etsy shop.

January 7, 2015

I have always been a collector of things. I’ve gone through a bunch of phases, all beginning with the infamous TY Beanie Babies. Real talk, who didn’t? I collected pogs, crazy bones, spice girl cards, pokemon cards, tin robots, pin buttons and more recently, the red rose tea figurines.

I have like, eighty. I am not exaggerating.

I found three under my couch today that my cat managed to snag at some point from my shelf.

Tough decisions

January 5, 2015

I’ve noticed since I’ve started taking photos daily that I am not immediately inspired. I’ve had to wander around my apartment and seek out a subject. I don’t really like that I can’t immediately think of something, or take it from my day as I’m out and about. I’ve decided to start dragging my DSLR out with me on my daily adventures, just in case something inspires a photo. When I first got my camera, that’s all I did. Lets simplify things and take it back to the beginning, shall we? Unrelated, but my boyfriend has been watching far too much football today.
